The curricular studies are negotiated by children and teachers (and often with parental input), and the "project approach" is implemented. In-depth study projects provide children numerous opportunities to collaborate in small groups to make predictions, test theories, and revisit experiences. Children and teaches are seen as "co-constructivists," researching and learning together. The curriculum aims to help children to develop creativity, strong problem solving abilities, and a sense of inquiry.

Documentation of children's work (and the course of their exploration) is an integral part of the curriculum. Through careful observation and note-taking, teachers and children propel the curriculum forward with this reflective process of recording ideas and events. The Renaissance School provides a wide variety of techniques in the documentation process, including audio and video taping, photography, and transcripts of conversations.

An anti-bias curriculum is implemented at the Renaissance School.
