Our Scholarship Fund Helps Families In Need

Today three out of five families inquiring about preschool are in need of some financial assistance. High unemployment rates and a poor economy have put preschool out of reach for many low and middle-income families.  They attempt to access funds from state organizations such as Child Care Outlook to subsidize the cost of their child’s preschool tuition.  But sadly the funds are quickly exhausted and many families are turned away. As a result many preschools have low enrollment and are struggling to stay alive.

The Renaissance School is licensed to serve 30 children although we are currently under- enrolled. We have the space to serve more children, we have interested families waiting for vouchers, and up until last fall we lacked the funds to help them.

In September 2010, the Renaissance School established a special scholarship fund to help children from low-income families attend our preschool. We raised $2,700 and provided financial assistance to three families throughout the school year.

We have learned from current research that a quality early education is overwhelmingly beneficial to young children.  A strong beginning helps lay a solid foundation for a child’s successful educational career and beyond.  Statistics indicate that school retention rates are higher, students achieve higher grades while in school, and crime rates are lower when children receive a quality early education.

In order to truly make a difference in the lives of young children, we need to help more of them have quality preschool experiences.  The educators at the Renaissance School have discovered providing financial assistance is priceless – we connect with a local family, touch a little life right now, but most importantly, have an impact on that child’s future.

We need to renew our scholarship funds to help more children be able to attend preschool.  Please help us make a difference by making a donation to this worthwhile cause… any amount is very welcome and truly appreciated!

Please make your check payable to the “Renaissance School.”  If you would like your donation to be tax deductible, please make your check payable to “Immanuel Lutheran Church,” and note “Scholarship Fund” on the memo line. Although our preschool is not affiliated with the church, the church has kindly offered to manage our scholarship fund.

We hope to receive your donation at your earliest convenience to help us plan for the coming school year. Thank you so much for your generous support of our program!
